Artist Statement
I am first and foremost a storyteller. My work explores ideas about identity, personal relationships, and finding one’s way through life. I myself have struggled with the concept of identity, as someone who has Dissociative Identity Disorder. I’m not the same person who was born into this body, yet I will still use it and this brain to tell those tales that should be told. The stories I tell through drawings are not only based on my own experiences, but from others in my life as well. My works are snapshots of intimate moments between friends, families, rivals, and lovers. Outside of drawings, I also envision and assemble costumes of characters, wear these costumes, and take photos as well as perform. My main inspirations come from media in which the focus is collaborative storytelling, such as the popular role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons, as well as interactive novels, and many types of video games. I’m constantly engaging in both consumption, production, and conversation about stories.
